What are the symptoms of diabetic nephropathy?
When the kidney begins to develop no symptoms. However, when more advanced kidney function is impaired may occur:
- Tiredness
- Nausea and vomiting
- Itching in the skin
- Metallic taste in mouth
- Heartburn
- Edema (fluid retention) in the legs or eyelids.
What are the warning signs?
The high levels of blood glucose increase the risk of diabetic nephropathy. For this reason, it is imperative to:
- Keep blood glucose levels as close to normal as possible.
- Measure the amount of protein (albumin) in urine once a year.
- Having a good control of blood pressure.
