The fatal hemorrhagic stroke, up to 50% of all people with intracerebral hemorrhage die. Many of these deaths occur within the first few days.

The recovery of survivors of hemorrhagic stroke is slow. Only 12% of people can recover completely or nearly completely and return to work within 30 days after stroke

Prevention

You can help prevent stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage by controlling your blood pressure. If you take warfarin, learn about the effects of other drugs and foods can have on warfarin in your blood stream because too much warfarin can cause bleeding blood.

You should treat your cholesterol, avoid alcohol and never use cocaine or amphetamines. The habit of smoking increases the risk of an aneurysm, so avoiding smoking prevents some cause of hemorrhagic stroke.

It is almost impossible to prevent subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by an aneurysm or arteriovenous malformation, because the abnormalities of these blood vessels do not usually cause no symptoms before the bleeding occurs.

Some doctors offer screening as MRI angiography to identify aneurysms before they cause a problem. However, this idea was not practical for most because the surgery to remove the aneurysm with no symptoms include significant risks, and because most aneurysms never cause serious bleeding.

This screening may make sense for some people who have had two or more relatives with intracerebral hemorrhage. Since screening is controversial aneurysm, you should carefully consider the risks of surgery with a doctor before undergoing a screening test.
